Finally, a true “pocket-sized” camera that features a large image sensor!

Up until recently, choosing a digital camera has meant making a compromise between image quality and portability. Either you opt for excellent low-light performance and get an SLR with a large image sensor, or you choose something pocketable that leaves you squinting at the photos to try and work out what it was that you took a photo of amongst all that image noise. The problem is that such a tiny sensor struggles to pick up enough light whilst working with fast shutter speeds. Of course you can opt for a tripod and a long exposure to combat this, though it somewhat defeats the purpose of having a “compact” camera.
Enter the Canon PowerShot S95. Whilst it is by no means the first or only compact camera to feature a physically larger image sensor for better low-light results, it is one of few that will actually fit into your pocket. And I’m talking about real pockets, not Jean-Claude Van Damme cargo pants pockets.
